Gudauri: Skiing on Georgia’s Greater Caucasus Plateau
Gudauri is a purpose-built ski resort on the south-facing plateau of the Greater Caucasus Mountains, about 120 km north of Tbilisi. The resort’s ski terrain extends from 1,993 to 3,279 meters with open alpine slopes mainly above the tree line.

Gudauri sits along the Georgian Military Road at around 2,200 meters elevation, offering a wide-open alpine setting distinct from forested resorts like Bakuriani. Its ski season peaks from late December to late March, when lifts operate extensively and snow depth is highest. The area includes New Gudauri near the highway and older mid-mountain hotels, all connected by chairlifts and gondolas.
Pistes and Off-Piste
More than 70 km of marked pistes cover the ski area, with extensive freeride and heli-skiing terrain accessible in the surrounding backcountry.
Getting There
Gudauri is reached by a 2–3 hour drive from Tbilisi International Airport via the Georgian Military Road, the main route through the region.
Winter Peak Times
Peak season runs from late December to late March, when most lifts operate and snow conditions are optimal for skiing and freeride competitions.
